UPDATE: BRITTANY AUTOPSY COMPLETE
The Brittany Murphy autopsy is complete, but it looks like we won’t learn the official cause of death for 6 weeks. They have to wait on the toxicology results but authorities are saying there is no evidence to suggest foul play was involved. (they’re still saying she was complaining of flu like symptoms, while others are talking anorexia coupled with prescription meds).
BRITTANY MURPHY DIES
Actress BRITTANY MURPHY died Sunday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 32. A spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles confirmed the death, which was first reported by TMZ.com. Murphy's rep told ABC News, "In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support.
It is their wish that you respect their privacy."
Los Angeles County coroner's official ED WINTER said Murphy appeared to die of natural causes, though an official cause of death may not be announced for a while. Another coroner's official tells People magazine, quote, "Foul play is not suspected at this time because there were no outward signs of trauma or other injuries." An autopsy is scheduled to take place sometime in the next two days.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirms that it had received a 911 call, reportedly made by Murphy's mother, from a home belonging to the actress and her husband, British screenwriter SIMON MONJACK, at 8 a.m. PT. Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in a bathroom. Murphy reportedly was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after going into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m. PT. Authorities have since launched an investigation into Murphy's death and are taking a close look at her medical history. TMZ.com reports Murphy had told relatives Sunday morning she did not feel well and that she had been feeling flu-like symptoms. According to TMZ, there was, quote, "a significant amount of vomit" in the bathroom area. A source also told the website, quote, "There were a lot...a lot of prescriptions in the house." TMZ also claims authorities did not find any illegal drugs, but did say Murphy was taking prescreption medicine.
Murphy was best known for her roles in Clueless, 8 Mile and Girl, Interrupted. Her other films included Just Married, Uptown Girls, Sin City and Don't Say A Word. Her most recent release was the thriller Across The Hall, which opened in limited release earlier this month. One of Murphy's final roles is an apperance in the SYLVESTER STALLONE action flick The Expendables, set to open next year.
In addition to acting onscreen, Murphy also did voiceovers.
