HERE IT IS - - THE BIG ARTICLE IN THE CALGARY HERALD!
We know, we know, BAD picture!!

FREEWAY FRANK & MEG TUCKER
Energy 101.5 FM
FREEWAY AND MEG IN THE MORNING
WEEKDAYS 5:30—9 A.M.

Former competitors on the Toronto radio scene, Meg and Frank were enticed out to Calgary in the spring of 2007 to create a new morning team. “To make magic, it doesn’t happen right away,” Frank says, conceding there were some bumps along the way. “But one day, it just changed. Right before Christmas, something changed. Everything just came together. Now, we’re like brother and sister.”

And Meg is one sister who can give as good as she gets. “I can hold my own with the boys and I’m proud of that.”

FROM THERE TO HERE

Frank has been in radio for 18 years, getting his start in Hamilton prior to stints in his native Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto, where his sole contact with Meg was at a bar where she tried to set him up with her friend. Meg (who worked in event marketing, but did standup comedy on the side) made it on air after winning a contest to dish on a reality show on CHUM FM and TV in Toronto. After her eight-week stint, she was offered the entertainment-correspondent spot on the morning show.

EARLY TO BED

“I am a toddler,” Meg says in reference to her bedtime of 8 p.m. Frank has her beat, hitting the sack at 6:55 p.m. on one occasion, though 9:15 p.m. is more usual for him. That said, Meg’s up at 3:30 a.m. and he only reaches for the alarm clock at 4 a.m.

WHAT’S GREAT ABOUT RADIO?

“People really have to use their heads to visualize what’s going on in the studio. TV, it’s tough too, but they have visual aids. We have to do it basically on our own,” Frank says. “We do it through theatre of the mind. To me, that’s what’s compelling. That’s what excites me.”

WORST ON-AIR MOMENT

“I try to be uber-careful,” says Meg, who’s never—yet—let a curse drop on air. That said, there’s an occasional slip of the tongue, such as when she learned that Estelle Getty of The Golden Girls had died. “And I said, ‘That’s crazy,’ but she died of dementia,” Meg recalls with a groan. “But that’s the vernacular of a thirtysomething woman.”

BEST ON-AIR MOMENT

Frank wears his heart on his sleeve with this one: “When Nelly Furtado said she used to listen to me in her room in Victoria when I was on air in Vancouver.” (Yup, that’s the songbird by Frank’s side in his profile pic on his myspace page.)

WHAT’S THE SONG YOU’D LIKE TO PLAY, BUT CAN’T?

“I always want to play Corey Hart,” Meg says, and she counts the “Sunglasses at Night” singer as her favourite concert ever, even over—gasp!—Paul McCartney.

Frank? He’d pop in Ravel’s “Bolero,” all 16 minutes of it. —R.M.

ED ROBERTSON SURVIVES CRASH

Barenaked Ladies' frontman -- not the one just busted for drugs -- Ed Robertson survived a plane crash early this morning north of Bancroft, Ontario by the skin of his barenaked butt. Sgt. Jeff Mackinnon of the Bancroft OPP told the Intelligencer, "At 12:30 PM a Cessna 206 was taking off from Baptiste Lake, lost airspeed and entered a wooded area west of the lake." Mackinnon said all four passengers, including Ed, walked out of the woods and then reported the crash. The Intelligencer's sources say Ed was piloting his own float-plane -- the kind with pontoons -- but police won't release any details because an investigation by Canada's Transportation Safety Board is underway.

MAYERSTON HAS EXPIRED

It looks as though the whirlwind 4 month romance between Mayerston/Johnnifer – John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston has finished. (apparently Jen asked him to set a timetable for their relationship and he wasn’t willing, rumor #2- He was seen in Cabo with a mystery brunette, rumor #3- he’s now dating his opening act Colbie Caillait). Now maybe Jen can hang out with Jessica Simpson!

PLEASE TELL US THIS ISN'T TRUE!

US Weekly is reporting that Lindsay’s little sis Ali Lohan got implants…she’s 14. Apparently she showed up at a Jonas Brothers concert…suddenly with massive curves.

WANNA DATE A JO-BRO?

Listen up, ladies: if you want to date one of the JONAS BROTHERS they've conveniently revealed their girlfriend requirements to MTV. KEVIN explains that since the band is on the road so much, they prefer to spend the little time they can share with others talking to girls who are upbeat. He says, "[When] you get on the phone and they're like, 'My day is awful, blah,' you're like 'This is not what I need right now!'" JOE agrees, adding, "This is hard, but if [girls] are nagging and annoying, you're like, 'Go away.'" As for little brother NICK, he offers simply, "They have to be good to their moms." Fair enough. On a separate note, the brothers told MTV that they recently met BEN STILLER and are eager to work with the actor and director. Joe says, quote, "We were talking with him about doing a movie."

SOLDIERS OF FITNESS...WEEK ONE RECAP!

As I sit at my computer I can't help but look at the time, 1:36pm. I have exactly 3 hours before I leave for Soldiers of Fitness Week 2: Day One.

Good news? I made it through Week One.

Bad news? Well, the 'old me' would give you a laundry list of aches, pains and excuses, BUT the 'new me' is saying this is it...don't focus on the pain. You're going to love it.

Ok, so maybe LOVE is too strong a word. How about you're going, you're going to give it your all, and that is THAT!

Before I signed up for SOF I couldn't even imagine the range of emotions I was about to go through. Panic. Frustration. Exhaustion. The night before we started I think I got two hours sleep, MAX. As I tossed and turned in bed all I could think of was...What have I gotten myself into? What will they make us do?.

After the first couple days I would get increasingly nervous as 5:30 approached. I couldn't shake the feeling I know I am not the fastest, I know I have a LONG way to go [before I am GI-Jane], what if I can't keep up? It's amazing how the brain plays tricks on you, Ithink I'm learning the key is to not let it get the best of you.

Last week was absolutely, without a doubt, the TOUGHEST thing I have ever done in my life. Night after night I would come home with barely enough strength to lower myself into the tub; then be faced with the dilemma, HOW am I going to get out!?

The workouts are beyond comprehension. Picture the most you've EVER done at the gym, then multiply it by a thousand. Need a little more insight? How about running for 12 minutes, then pushups done 3 ways, situps, burpees, planks, and Ranger kicks...BEFORE the "mission" even begins. If you're late? Forget it. The "punishment" has already been faced by those who were on time.

Soldiers truly is all about the team.

To be honest, that's a BIG part of how I am getting through this. SOF teaches you to rely on your team beyond anything you'd normally experience in day to day life. If you are slow, they come back for you. If you don't finish your situps, someone faster will finish WITH you. If you want to give up, you're suddenly flanked by strong teammates willing to go the extra mile to ensure you all cross the finish line at the same time.

Total strangers suddenly become your closest allies as you all struggle to win together.

I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. No one gets left behind.

So, I just glanced at the clock. It's 2:06. This took me 30 minutes to type; one third of my workout tonight. I'll leave you with a little exercise. The next time you're driving by Edworthy Park (entrance off Memorial Drive/Shaganappi) look across the bridge and up the hill to the south as far as the eye can see. Off in the distance by the tiny power lines just under the horizon is a house.

This is the house we RAN to on Week One, Day 2.

For fun.

Here's to Week 2...this might not get easier, but I will be stronger!

HUA!

(in case you're curious why soldiers chant this, it's really quite simple: H= Heard, U=Understood and A=Acknowledged)

HOLLYWOOD SAYS GOODBYE TO TWO LEGENDS

Bernie Mac passed away on Saturday, which came as QUITE a shock, considering his publicist stated on Friday that he would be released from the hospital. Now - you might have heard that he's been sick for a while...he actually was diagnosed back in 2005 with an inflammatory lung disease called sarcoidosis, but they were saying that he'd been in remission. His death however, was caused by complications of pneumonia, due to a compromised immune system.

Here's where it gets ironic. Bernie had just finished shooting Samuel Jackson's new comedy Soul Men which will be out in November -- also starring...the late musician Isaac Hayes, who ALSO died on the weekend.

Isaac Hayes, who composed arguably one of the most catchy movie themes in Hollywood history for the 1971 film Shaft, died yesterday at the age of 65. He was pronounced dead at a Memphis, Tennessee hospital after family members found him collapsed near a treadmill in his home. The exact cause of death is not known. He suffered a stroke in 2006.

PINEAPPLE COMES CLOSE...

The new Seth Rogen comedy Pineapple Express didn't quite bump Batman out of top spot...but close. Pineapple: 22 million. Batman, 26 million (bringing it's total to $441.5...it's now the third highest-grossing domestic movie of all time).

THE JO-BROS BREAK YET ANOTHER RECORD

The Jonas Brothers breaking MORE records...this time on Friday. They performed on Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series and drew the show's biggest-ever crowd to New York City's Bryant Park. The NYPD estimates 20 thousand fans showed up to check out the JoBros, even though the park technically holds only 10 thousand people.

Rumors continue to circulate that all is not well in the Madonna/Guy Ritchie marriage…but the New York Post reports they have agreed to give the union one more year.

FRASIER HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

Kelsey Grammer has checked back out of the hospital…you might have heard he went in last week after feeling more chest pains…

CSI CASTING CONTINUES...

CBS is investigating Laurence Fishburne as a possible replacement for departing star William Petersen on CSI. The Hollywood Reporter says Fishburne is in talks to play a new character, previously described by the network as a scientist with a "genetic profile" usually associated with serial killers. John Malkovich and Kurt Russell are also up for the role.

WHO MAKES THE MOST?

According to TV Guide, Charlie Sheen and William Petersen from CSI are TV’s highest paid actors. Charlie makes $20 million a year/that’s $825,000 per episode. William, makes $600,000. On the women side of things, Law & Order: SVU's MARISKA HARGITAY leads the pack with $400,000/ep. (Others: OPRAH WINFREY: $385 million per year, SIMON COWELL: $50 million per year, DAVID LETTERMAN: $32 million per year, The Simpsons cast: $400 thousand per episode, KATIE COURIC: $15 million per year).

IN THEATRES TODAY!

2 movies in theatres today - - Pineapple Express with Seth Rogen and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2…SO good!

SOLDIERS OF FITNESS!

THE SOLDIERS OF FITNESS COUNTDOWN IS ON!!

Well, I am about to embark on a MAJOR journey. As of Monday August 4th, I am beginning the "transformation of all transformations"...Soldiers of Fitness. Boot camp.
YUP!!!! After seeing Carlos our Goodwill Ambassador do it for a month, Ian and I are jumping in.

I am terrified, I am nervous, but the most excited I've EVER been about something in my life. I have gained weight, lost weight, gained motivation and like so many people, lost it, but I have NEVER EVER made lasting positive changes, through exercise. UNTIL NOW.

Ready for this? 90 minutes a night, 5 days a week, for 4 straight weeks (then it goes down to 3 days a week, if you want to continue, which I fully plan to for at least a year.)

www.soldiersoffitness.com

We met with the Instructor 2 weeks ago and I believe his words were..."We expect you to give us your personal best, every single night, but just know, it will NEVER quite be enough for us. Take all your pride, put it in a little box, then place it on the seat of your car...get out, complete the night, then get back in your car and collect your pride on the drive home. Then get up and do it all over again, EVERY DAY."

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???????????????????????????????? I am soooooooooo excited, scared and READY to make a change.

Stay tuned for regular updates/GROANS!!

Have an AWESOME long weekend!

Meg
