Hollywood 360- August 11

HOLLYWOOD SAYS GOODBYE TO TWO LEGENDS

Bernie Mac passed away on Saturday, which came as QUITE a shock, considering his publicist stated on Friday that he would be released from the hospital. Now - you might have heard that he's been sick for a while...he actually was diagnosed back in 2005 with an inflammatory lung disease called sarcoidosis, but they were saying that he'd been in remission. His death however, was caused by complications of pneumonia, due to a compromised immune system.

Here's where it gets ironic. Bernie had just finished shooting Samuel Jackson's new comedy Soul Men which will be out in November -- also starring...the late musician Isaac Hayes, who ALSO died on the weekend.

Isaac Hayes, who composed arguably one of the most catchy movie themes in Hollywood history for the 1971 film Shaft, died yesterday at the age of 65. He was pronounced dead at a Memphis, Tennessee hospital after family members found him collapsed near a treadmill in his home. The exact cause of death is not known. He suffered a stroke in 2006.

PINEAPPLE COMES CLOSE...

The new Seth Rogen comedy Pineapple Express didn't quite bump Batman out of top spot...but close. Pineapple: 22 million. Batman, 26 million (bringing it's total to $441.5...it's now the third highest-grossing domestic movie of all time).

THE JO-BROS BREAK YET ANOTHER RECORD

The Jonas Brothers breaking MORE records...this time on Friday. They performed on Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series and drew the show's biggest-ever crowd to New York City's Bryant Park. The NYPD estimates 20 thousand fans showed up to check out the JoBros, even though the park technically holds only 10 thousand people.
