MACKENZIE PHILLIPS ON OPRAH

Well, this has certainly dominated the news the last couple days. MacKenzie Phillips (from One Day at a Time) – was on Oprah yesterday talking about her memoirs- called High On Arrival, exposing that she and her Dad (the late John Phillips from the Mamas and the Papas) were in an incestuous relationship for almost 10 years. She was VERY candid with Oprah, telling her that she eventually put a stop to the relationship after a decade, when she became pregnant and was unsure of the baby's father, also claiming her dad paid for an abortion.

The REASON she wanted to go on Oprah was to admit that although the relationship eventually became consensual, she wanted to put a FACE on the problem, because sadly it happens more than we know. She also goes on record to say they were BOTH HEAVILY influenced by massive amounts of drugs/alcohol. “I THINK MY FATHER WAS NOT A BAD MAN. HE WAS KIND OF A TESTAMENT TO WHAT DRUGS AND ALCOHOL IN HUGE QUANTITIES CAN DO TO A PERSON'S PRIORITIES AND MOTIVES”.

(Michelle Phillips, who was married to John from 62 to 70 doesn’t believe a word of it, saying “she had a needle stuck up her arm for 35 years…but if she thinks it’s true, why isn’t she with a good psychiatrist on a couch? She also says “I think it’s unforgiveable that Oprah would LET her do her show!”)

I believe Oprah even made the comment, “Will someone call tomorrow to tell us this is all a lie?” – she’s been burned before by a MEMOIR… "A Million Little Pieces," James Frey from a few years ago…MacKenzie’s book is now in stores.
