CHRIS BROWN EXPECTED IN COURT TODAY -- MAYBE

The Associated Press, E! Online, People magazine, OK! magazine and TMZ.com are all reporting that CHRIS BROWN is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles court today, nearly a month after he allegedly assaulted RIHANNA.

However, it is not yet clear if charges have been or will be officially filed against Chris, who was arrested February 8th and booked on suspicion of making criminal threats. Additionally, depending on what charges may be filed today, Chris might not have to appear in court in person. If he's charged with a misdemeanor, his attorney can appear on his behalf. Felony charges would require Chris to be present.

According to People magazine, today's court appearance may be postponed altogether if the district attorney's office needs more time to examine the case. The Los Angeles Police Department handed the case to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office yesterday.

E! News reports the evidence under review includes a bloodstained gown worn by Rihanna at the time of the alleged attack. E! News is also reporting that Chris' attorneys are trying to negotiate a potential plea deal under which Chris would avoid jail time and be sentenced to probation. In fact, one of Chris' attorneys reportedly met with the D.A. as early as Monday. The report states that the D.A.'s Office may have a tough time pursuing domestic abuse and battery charges, since Rihanna has seemingly reconciled with Chris.

Chris and Rihanna reportedly reconnected in Miami last week before flying to Los Angeles over the weekend. Star magazine goes so far as to claim that Chris popped the question to Rihanna while they were in Miami, and she told him, quote, "I can't live without you."
